Students at Terrace Elementary School have the opportunity to be a part of a program called Food Explorers.

The program, facilitated by speech language pathologist Ms. Meghan Ochoa, is a food tasting and dining etiquette program.

The group was formed in response to feedback from parents who noted that their children had a restricted food repertoire.

The program offers a supportive, structured environment for food exposure and social learning.

As a Food Explorer, students try new foods and learn what they dislike and like with their peers.

The program's objectives include encouraging the taste, textures and flavors of different foods, practicing proper dining hygiene such as using a napkin, and working on table manners and appropriate table conversation.

Prior to participating in the club, parents sign a letter of consent indicating current accepted foods, avoided foods and any known allergies.

The group is allowing students to discover foods they otherwise never would have tried.
