Growing Through Music Therapy

The music therapy is provided through Dynamic Lynks, a company based out of Oak Park.

The program focuses on using music and movement as a way of helping children grow and develop different skills. 

The musician began by playing a song for the students, then circulated among them, offering each a chance to play her guitar.

She then distributed cabasas to each student, inviting them to join in the rhythmic fun.

The students participated in a collaborative songwriting exercise, focusing on the theme of gratitude. Each student was given the opportunity to add their own verses.

After finishing the song, they gathered on the carpet to sing it together, using musical shakers.

Music therapy helps the students work on strengthening their social, emotional and communication skills.

After the joyful performance of their original song, students were given the opportunity to explore a variety of percussion instruments.

During the therapy sessions the students participate in offer different creative experiences, including active music making and receptive learning.
