Plants, Weather, Rainbows and Butterflies!

Plants, Weather, Rainbows and Butterflies!
Terrace

Over the last several weeks Terrace Elementary School kindergarteners have been engaging in exciting science lessons, learning about plants, weather and butterflies!

Kindergarten Teacher Ms. Cari Tripoli said every week the students read a book or watch a video about a specific topic and then create an art project and conduct a science experiment.

The first week the students learned about plants and what they need to survive.

The students colored houses and planted grass seeds, with the grass growing in front of the homes to create a "front lawn."

The second week the students learned about rain and clouds, using puffy paint to make a cloud and rain scene.

They had fun putting shaving cream in a cup and using a dropper with blue water to drop "rain" through the "clouds." The third week was all about rainbows!

Ms. Tripoli said they made rainbows out of construction paper and then poured hot water in the middle of a plate surrounded by Skittles to create their own "rainbow."

Finally, the fourth week the class learned about butterflies. They made butterflies out of coffee filters and used pasta noodles to illustrate a butterfly's life cycle.

The students continued to journal the changes in their grass every week and were excited to see the seeds turn into tall grass.

Ms. Tripoli said the students had fun making predictions and drawing what they thought was going to happen before each experiment, and then they drew what actually happened after they completed the experiment.

Not only did the kindergarteners learn all about these topics, but they had fun in the process!
