Using Mirrors in Phonics

Some of the letters they worked on were M, S, T, P, A and I.

Ms. Tripoli gave each of the students a small mirror and asked them to look into it while they were sounding the letters out.

She asked the students to put their hands in front of their mouths when sounding out the different letters so they could see how their lips would move.

The kindergarteners also enjoyed sounding the different letters out while holding their noses, covering their ears and putting their hands on their throats.

The words of the day were "is," "it," "see," 'the" and "to." 

The students then spent time learning the short "a" and short "i" vowel sounds.

They had to cut out pictures with those short vowel sounds and glue them under the correct columns in their phonics workbook. 

The students also spent time writing the letters in their workbook.

To finish up the lesson, Ms. Tripoli read them a short story and, after she read a part, the students read it also.
